Estágio atual dos estudos de mineralogia de argila dos solos da regiao cacaueira da Bahia

The present status of the studies on the clay mineralogy of some cartographic units of the cacao Region of Bahia, Brazil, is summarized. Eleven of the 15 soils units showed advanced weathering, with dominance of 1:1 of minerals kaolinite family. Montmorilonite/smectite and vermiculite predominate in the Itamirim (Mollisol) soil unit and were found in the Hydromorphic (Inseptisol) soil unit Micas, attalpugite, interstratified minerals, gibsite, goetite and hermatite were also noted.
