Insetos e ácaros de importancia quarentenária para o cacaueiro no Brasil

For purposes of quarantine, information from available literature is presented on some insect and mite pests of cacao (Theobroma cacao L.). Control of their entry into Brazil is of economic importance. The cacao tree, bean and stored products are vulnerable, e.g. the scolytid beetle Xylosandrus compactus - a limiting factor in the expansion of new cacao regions; the mirids, Salbergella singularis, Distantiella theobromae and Helopeltis spp. partially responsible for declining production in some West African countries and Asia, the mealybug, Pseudococcus njalensis responsible for the Swollen Shoot Virus in Africa, and Trogoderma granarium and other insects which damage stored beans and products.
