Solos do município de Ilhéus

Ilhéus is the largest country (181.900 ha) of the main cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) growing zone in Southern Bahia. In order to put together informations on soil sources in that country a reconnaissance soil survey was made by using photointerpretation techniques. A soil map was prepared with the help of aerial photograps, 1:25,000 and 1:108,000 scals and field control and soil sample analysis. Geological, climatic, vegetational and land use characteristics of the country were also considered. With basis on morphological, physical, chemical and mineralogical analysis twenty three soil units were stablished and classified according with the Brazilian and American Soil Taxonomy
