Patogenicidade de alguns isolados de Phytophthora sobre diferentes hospedeiros

Isolates of Phytophthora palmivora (Butl.) Butl. from cocoa, rubber and black pepper were cross-inoculated to these hosts to study their pathogenicity on all three. The following isolates were tested: P23 from cocoa, morphological form 4 (MF4); P26 from cocoa (MF1); P51 from rubber, (MF4); and P37 and P43 from black pepper (MF4). Inoculations were made by inserting 3mm diameter mycelial disks from agar cultures inserted into incisions made in the stem bark. In addition to stems, petioles of rubber seedlings were inoculated in the same way. Lesions were produced on cocoa seedlings by all isolates, but the most virulent was P26 (MF1) followed by P23 (MF4), while the isolates from black pepper and rubber formed smaller lesions. All isolates were pathogenic to rubber seedlings but P51 (MF4) and P26 (MF1) were, respectively, the most and the least virulent. All caused leaf fall when inoculated on petioles. P37 and P43 (MF4) were the only isolates pathogenic to black pepper
