Observacoes citológicas em células maes de polem de cacaueiros

Mono, bi-and trivalent chromosomal pairing was observed in the pollen grain formation process for both self-compatible cocoa and cocoa hybrids where one of the parents was self-compatible. It has been considered than pollen viability was related to the frequency of bivalent chromosomal pairing in the division of the pollen mother cell. However, values found for viable pollen grains for both self-compatible cultivars and cultivars with one self-incompatible parent indicate there is no relationship between viability and frequency of bivalent chromosomal pairing
