Water stress in cocoa and its effects on Distantiella theobroma in the laboratory

Methods for feeding Distantiella theobroma (Dist). on cocoa tissues at controlled levels of water stress are described along with the changes observed in lesion formation and nymph mortality. The mechanisms whereby water stress may affect feeding behaviour and hence the capsids biology are discussed, in conjunction with some field observations of water availability in the dry season and the influence of its diurnal variation
