Pinus Tecunumanii: una especie nueva de Guatemala

Specific status is recommended for P. tecunumanii, originally described by Schwerdfteger in 1953, but without a latin diagnosis. Herbarium specimens were collected in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras; xylem oleoresin samples were taken from trees in Guatemala. This species appears to be related to the very variable P. oocarpa complex and particulary to the P. oocarpa var. ochoterenae. Table 1 and 2 present morphological and chemical comparisons between P. tecunumanii and P. oocarpa var. ochoterenae. The name for this species is taken from Tecun Uma, last leader of the mayaquiche indians of Guatemala, who died in battle against the spanish Pedro de Alvarado
