A statistical analysis of the world export and price relationships of the major oils and fats with special reference to palm oil

Total world exports and prices for thirteen oils and fats were analyses by a regression technique. Export of each oil or fat was regressed on the prices, the inclusion of which was based on some statistical criteria. Estimates of the direct and cross price elasticities were obtained and interpretations attempted with special reference to competitions between palm oil with others. Extension of the regression model to include exports as additional explanatory variables has been attempted for palm oil. Palm oil price was also analysed similarly. Results of this extension provided additional information especially on competition and parallelism between palm oil and other oils and fats in terms of both exports and prices
