In the study reported in this paper, Solanum brevidens developed no obvious disease symptoms when inoculated with potato virus Y (PVY) and potato virus X (PVX), and both viruses reached only a low virus titre, apparently because relatively few cells became infected. However, protoplasts were readily infected in vitro
