Gene technology and yam improvement

The genetic improvement of yam by conventional breeding methods will increasingly be supported by the application of new techniques such as DNA fingerprinting, defence gene isolation, construction of chimeric genes, and their reintroduction into selected cultivars. The preliminary results of this approach, summarized in this paper, are encouraging
