Flowering and seed-production of Fischeria funebris (Asclepiadaceae)

Flowers of the vine Fischeria funebris, growing at a site in Costa Rica, opened early in the morning and remained open for 10-15 days. The nectar secreted attracted many small bees, from tiny, sweat bees, to Trigona fulviventris, and a variety of small and medium-sized butterflies. Many insects carried up to 4 pairs of pollinia on their legs, but only a small number of the flowers were pollinated. The few large follicles which developed contained large numbers of seeds.
