Cultivation of yam bean, Pachyrhizus erosus (L) Urban (Leguminosae), on the Rancho San Pedro, Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico
The history of cultivation and use in Mexico of P. erosus is traced from earliest times to the present day. A description is given of seedbed preparation, sowing methods, fertilizer regime, flower removal, control of weeds, pests and diseases, harvesting and marketing of the crop as practised on this ranch in Veracruz for major than 20 years.
