Consideraciones metodológicas para fijar el aprovechamiento permisible de especies vegetales no maderables

Based on the Tropical Agriculture Research and Higher Education Center's experiences, a methodological proposal is presented to incorporate species with non-timber products in forestry production processes. In this proposal the use of these resources is based on the definition of the sustainable supply of the products in the forest and on silvicultural criteria for each species, as opposed to traditional extraction lacking in capacity and productive limitation indicators. This is a research and validation process with two stages: definition of the product to harvest and definition of the productive process (including the initial knowledge about the species, the development of tools to characterize its population structure and to estimate the amount of harvestable product, the development of a silvicultural system and a sustainable use plan).
