Conservation in Guatemala: final report

During summer 1983, the authors surveyed the status of natural resource conservation in Guatemala by visiting national parks, biotopes, and nature reserves, and by interviewing key conservationists and government officials. This report to the World Wildlife Fund-U.S. examines the condition and structure of conservation efforts in Guatemala as the authors found it during that survey. The authors describe the major environmental problems facing Guatemala, then examine the private and governmental conservation organizations which are attempting to deal with these problems. Subsequently, they describe the nation's parks and reserves. Finally, the authors present specific recommendations for future action by both Guatemalan researchers and the international conservation community. A final section of the report lists programs available to Guatemalan conservationists who seek further training in natural resource conservation and management. The report concludes with a list of individuals interviewed and a bibliography of related references.
