Supplement of coconut water and benzylaminopurine (BAP) on somatic embryo reproduction of Arabica Coffee (Coffea arabica L.)

An experiment to study the use of coconut water and benzylaminopurine (BAP) on somatic embryo reproduction had been conducted at Tissue Culture Laboratory of Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute (Jember) from April to June 1992. Coconut water concentration used in these experiment were 0 to 37.5 ml/l whereas BAP concentration were 0 to 5.0 mg/l. Those supplements were added to B subíndice 5 media. The results showed that the best treatment was obtained from 22.5 cc coconut water/l combined with 2.5 mg BAP/l. It reproduced 56.67 percent somatic embryos. The shortest reproduction period was two weeks, and the highest number of somatic embryo was 29,93 and the percentage of cotyledon phase was 77.83 percent as well as the average length of embryo was about 3.35 mm.
