"Shaking puppy syndrome" in Weimaraners: three cases in one litter. First clinical diagnosis in Uruguay

Three one-month-old Weimaraner puppies of the same litter, two males and one female, showed whole body tremors that had been increasing during the week before consulting. The rhythmical tremors had been worsening as a response to different ambient stimuli or intention (i.e. suckling or feeding), physical exercise and excitement, but the tremors stopped when the puppies sleep. Physical examination and others studies suggested a «shaking puppy syndrome» caused by delayed myelination. The only observed serologic alteration was positive titers to Neospora caninum in the three puppies and the mother. In the present case, the neurological signs improved in a period of six months allowing a normal life. The present case is the first report of the disease in Uruguay.
