Rural extension and territorial approach: learning in action with others

The complexity of rural development in Argentina requires reviewing (re) thinking and adapting the way in which the Argentinean Agrifood System's science, technology and innovation institutions are linked to territorial actors, in order to achieve effective contributions to the innumerable Problems that society must face. It is almost impossible to synthesize studies, essays and works that demonstrate the need to modify the traditional organization of the processes of construction and appropriation of knowledge, both in Argentina and in other parts of the world. These works necessarily include changes in the way of thinking, organizing and ultimately learning, that facilitate sustainable changes appropriate to the different conditions of local actors. This essay summarizes the incessant process of improvement in the internal organization of the National Institute of Agricultural Technology, from the strengthening of the extension system to the internalization of the territorial approach as a strategy for planning and managing institutional action in the systemic complexity that characterizes to the territories. In the same way, the present work describes the method and systematizes the products of the monitoring practice of the Regional Projects with Territorial Approach, in order to generate information for the continuous improvement of the planning and management of the territorial approach and to identify opportunities that promote Processes of innovation in the rural territories, from a framework of interdisciplinary interaction with the actors and agents of the territorial innovation networks.
