Genetic parameters and paternity test in progenies of Euterpeoleracea originated from spontaneous hybridization with Euterpeedulis in subtropical climate

The objectives of this study were to analyze the mating system and the distribution of molecular variability among and within three groups of open pollinated progenies of Euterpe oleracea, in addition to performing a paternity test to identify the male parents and to further the genetic certification of the bifoliolate seedlings. With this purpose, we applied six microsatellite loci markers to 306 samples. The progeny groups are the result of a mixed breeding system, with no crosses between relatives, with allogamy (tm and ts = 1), and self-fertilization correlation (rt) of 0.110. Different degrees of kinship were found (rp), with complete siblings between 15.5 a 26,1%. Paternity was assigned to 51% and 24% of the samples with 80 % and 95% confidence, respectively. Twenty-two pollen donors and one self-fertilization were identified. We also found that the bifoliolate morphotype does not assure the occurrence of intraspecific crosses, since four progenies were identified as interspecific hybrids. A mean from 7 a 12.3 to alleles per locus was detected. The average heterozygosity was observed between 0.382 and 0.898 and the expected heterozygosity between 0.354 and 0.693. The fixation index was estimated between -0.053 and -0.319. The variation between groups was 5% and within groups was 95%. The results indicate good prospects for future work related to the prediction of genetic gains from the selection among and within the progeny groups.
