Pheremone traps were used in three zones of the Cauca Valley (North, Center and South) in order to determine the distribution and abundance of Diatraea indigenella Dyar & Heinrich and Diatraea saccharalis (Fabricius). They were located in fields with the variety CP 57603 plant croo. The intensity of infestation (1.1) and parasitism were also measured. Among four models of traps tested, the one called Equis type and set up at the canopy level, caugh the largest number of males. Weekly record s until harvest indicated that D. indigenella is found in the southern and in the Central parts of the Cauca Valley while D. saccharalis is widely distributed all over it. Species Diatraea spp. Male trap catching is not a variable that allows to predict e borers damage and the evaluation of the 1.1 is necessary to estimate it. Metagonistylum minense Townsend was the only parasite found in the northern part. In the other two areas studied, Jaynesileskia jaynesi Aldrich and Paratheresia claripalpis (Wulp) were also found. Laboratory experiments indicated that under those conditions D. saccharalis is a more effective host than D. indigenella.

Laboratory experiments indicated that under those conditions D. saccharalis is a more effective host than D. indigenella.
