DEMOGRAPHIC PARAMETERS OF Trialeurodes vaporariorum (HEMIPTERA: ALEYRODIDAE) ON POTATO AND TOMATO CROPS

The greenhouse whitefly - Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood) is a pest of importance for highland agriculture in the Chiriqui province. The determination of whether there are differences in the quality of the host plant of crops for the greenhouse whitefly (T. vaporariorum), has been carried out through experiments in host plant selection, life span, fecundity, frequency of oviposition, rate of development and mortality. With the objective of determining demographic parameters of the greenhouse whitefly (T. vaporariorum) under the local conditions of Cerro Punta, Chiriquí province, in the crops of potatoes (cultivar Puren) And tomato (cultivar Tropic), cultivated with photoperiod of 12L:12O hours, average temperature of 20,8 ± 0,74° C and average relative humidity of 70,93 ± 2,69%. The main parameters of the biotic potential of T. vaporariorum were obtained, it was determined that the tomato plant was the best host with the highest intrinsic rate of development and the lowest mortality of T. vaporariorum, compared with the potato plant.
