POTATO CLONES TOLERANT TO Phytophthora infestans AND HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE NGÄBE BUGLE REGION

The aim of this study was to evaluate 13 potato clones with tolerance to Phytophthora infestans, selected under conditions of temperatures between 15 and 36 °C (average of 24 °C), in order to determine their performance in the Ngäbe Buglé Region, in the period between May and October of 2012. The study was carried out on the plot of a small farmer applying a low external inputs the technology. It was used A RCB design with 13 treatments and three replicates. The experimental unit consisted of two rows of 5 m long, separated to 0.9 and 0.3 m between seeds. Prior planting the soil was removed with a hoe and furrows were made 15 cm depth, applied fertilizer 12-24-12 at the bottom of the furrow in doses of at least 150 kg·ha-1 and was covered with soil, placed the seed, which was also covered. When the plants reached a height of 15 to 20 cm, we proceeded to hilling, together with the application of 200 kg·ha-1 of chicken manure. There were no applications of chemicals for the control of pests. At harvest marketable yield was recorded, which includes all healthy tubers with a diameter greater than 45 mm and made the conversion to tons per hectare (t.ha-1). The data obtained were submitted to an Analysis of Variance and mean separation using the Tukey method. The clones P-131, P-104, P-105, P-128, P-121 and P-115 showed potential yields higher than the 30.0 t.ha-1.
