COLLECTION, CONSERVATION, TAXONOMIC IDENTIFICATION AND USE OF THE MEDICINAL FLORA OF THE NGÄBE-BUGLÉ REGION
The study was carried out in the Region Ngäbe Buglé (CNB), with the objective of collecting, conserving, taxonomically identifying and describing the healing properties of the medicinal flora used by the Ngäbe nation. 109 species were collected and classified, 62 in the Nedrini region, 37 in the Ñokribo region and 10 in the Kodriri region, distributed in 46 families. The adaptation and acclimatization was developed in the stations and experimental farms of the IDIAP located in San Félix, Hato Chamí and Pueblo Nuevo. The families with the greatest number of species were: Compositae, Acantacea, Rubiacea and Lamiaceae with nine, eight, eight and seven species respectively and 26 families conformed by a single species. The curative properties that traditional health agents attribute to the classified and characterized flora are for the treatment of 26 different types of affectations and of those the most common were for skin conditions, anemia, deworming, ailments in the digestive system, problems in the gestation stage, headaches, fevers, bites of ophidians and problems in the circulatory system.
