KIDNEY BEAN LINES OF CHILEAN GRAIN TYPE

With the objective to get varieties of Chilean bean grain type, experiments were conducted established to evaluate its agronomic performance. During the first year of evaluation, statistic differences between variety were determined for the values of affectation to web blight. It was determined that both, NUA 336 and NUA 140, in spite of presenting 35% leaf area affected, were superior. On the other hand, treatments yield in kg.ha-1 showed to be significant. The varieties NUA 336 and NUA 140, yielded 2040 kg.ha-1 and 1810 kg.ha-1, respectively. During the second year, the percentage of severity of web blight was measured, it showed significant difference between varieties (P≤0,0340). The NUA 336 and NUA 140 indicated better behavior and values of web blight affectation of 35%, while Criollo and NUA 249 reached 50% affectation, which classifies them as susceptible varieties. Agronomic performance was studied founding that NUA 140 yielded 2487 kg.ha-1 (P≤0,0340), which it is not suitable for agro–ecological conditions where bean cropping is done in Panama. It was followed by NUA 249 and NUA 336 lines, with 2217 kg.ha-1 and 2168 kg.ha-1, respectively. This last one, with better color of grain than the other evaluated varieties. The NUA 336 yielded 1728 kg.ha-1, it is a variety with size and color similar to the creole variety and it was the last material to be evaluated. Varieties were validate and showed excellent performance.
