Topics to be Considered for Establishing Competitive Plantations of Oil Palm in Colombia
Entrepreneurs interested in investing on the Colombian oil palm sector must be aware of the fact that this sector is not going to be as protected as it used to be in the past. Furthermore, the area currently planted with oil palm in Colombia is enough for covering the internal demand (both traditional consume and biofuels), so every new oil palm project must be competitive abroad. This is possible only if research and innovation results are incorporated to those projects in order to lower the production costs. This paper highlights the importance of using proper criteria before starting an oil palm project. Topics such as soils selection, irrigation, genetic material and transportation costs, among others, are considered from an economical point of view
