Sanity in oil palm : diagnostic and integrative research driven by the Colombian oil palm sector
One of the major events for the Colombian oil palm sector is the National Congress of Oil Palm Growers. For year 2007, its XXXV version was fulfilled in Cali, and within their academic activities, a realistic diagnostic about healthiness of oil palm cultivation was presented. Three critical topics were considered. The first one, a general diagnostic of oil palm diseases, in particular, root and stem rots, bud rot disease and lethal wilt. In second place, a brief description was done about the main pests attacking the oil palm cultivars. Finally, it was presented the long-term research strategy leaded by Cenipalma, including aspects such as breeding, support of biotechnology in phytopathology and general statements on specific-site agriculture

Para el año 2007, su versión XXXV se realizó en la ciudad de Cali y dentro de sus actividades académicas se presentó un diagnóstico realista sobre la sanidad del cultivo de palma de aceite, en el momento, uno de los temas más críticos del gremio palmicultor colombiano. Tres grandes temas fueron mencionados. El primero, un diagnóstico muy general de las enfermedades que están afectando al cultivo, en particular, las pudriciones de estípite y de raíces, la Pudrición de Cogollo (PC) y la Marchitez Letal (ML). En segundo lugar, se hizo una descripción del estado fitosanitario del cultivo con respecto a la presencia de plagas. Finalmente, se presentó lo que Cenipalma considera su estrategia de investigación a largo plazo, la cual incluyó aspectos relacionados con el fitomejoramiento y el aporte de la biotecnología en fitopatología.
