Headlines: (00:00-00:43 2. The 2 grandmothers of Elian Gonzalez arrived in the U.S. today, where they hope to meet Congressman Charles Rangle. He’s been supporting the return of Elian to Cuba. The 6 year old was rescued off the Florida coast, after his mother and other Cuban nationals drowned at sea. Since then, the 6 year old is caught up in a high profile custody battle between relatives in Miami and his father in Cuba. (00:44-02:44) 3. Caribbean and UN delegates are unanimous in calling the US to pay its outstanding contributions to the world body. Those calls come as part of the reaction to yesterday’s appearance at the UN Security Council by American Senator Jesse Helms. He lectures the body on trying to impose authority on the U.S. (02:45-05:44) 4. LIAT Airlines is back on track today as flight attendants are back at work. However, their return to the job is as a result of union and airline officials agreeing to have a whole day talk today. Leaders of the Antiguans Workers Union and Management of the Airline were still meeting up to air time. The Union wants LIAT to settle payment of January salaries. (05:45-06:17) 5. Venezuela says it needs between 10 and 30 billion dollars to repair the damage from last month’s massive floods and landslides. Venezuela’s Vice Foreign Minister says the figures are astronomical but due to a substantial part of the national infrastructure has been destroyed. At least 10,000 are alleged to be killed in the landslide and a further 100,000 are left homeless. (06:18-06:58) 6. Boxer Mike Tyson arrived in Brixton. The local council leaders warned the boxer not to go in Brixton as he was not welcomed there but as Adam Minott report that simply wasn’t the case. (06:59-09:04) 7. Players on the Under 16 West Indies team can be drafted into the senior team for the upcoming tours of the region and Zimbabwe and Pakistan.
