Five days after general elections in the Dominican Republic and it seems unlikely that the results will be announced within the next few days. The Central Electoral Board has suspended the publication of results from the individual polling stations because the two main opposition parties in the Dominican Republic are claiming numerous incidence of fraud with Juan Bosch presenting several documents of irregular polling procedures. Secondly, the Organization of American States Electoral Commission will arrive in Haiti to pave the way for national elections next month. There is also confirmation from Washington of the upcoming meeting between the presidents of Haiti and the United States. Following the Financial News, the Caribbean Development Bank recently concluded the bank’s 20th anniversary in the Bahamas. The President of the CDB states that the challenge facing Caricom, in the wake of the changes in Eastern Europe, is to attract increased levels of foreign investments and not to the decrease in aid from Western Europe.
