El levantamiento de la restricción fitosanitaria para la exportación del aguacate mexicano a Estados Unidos de América, ocurrida el 31 de enero de 1997, originó que las exportaciones a este país aumentaran desde ese año al 2010 2315.2%, equivalente a una tasa de crecimiento media anual de 27.8%. El volumen total exportado en 2010 originó una entrada de divisas de 469 millones de dólares. El objetivo de este trabajo es representar mediante un modelo econométrico el funcionamiento del mercado mexicano del aguacate, con los precios de exportación y su transmisión en los internos, la oferta, la demanda, y en el saldo de comercio exterior. Los resultados indican que en promedio de los años 1997-2010 las variables explicativas de la oferta originaron exportaciones por 273,384 toneladas y disminuyeron en 60,447 toneladas las de la demanda, dicha diferencia originó un promedio por 212,937 toneladas, las que comparadas con las observadas en dicho periodo son 22% superiores. Estos datos indican que el mayor efecto en el saldo de comercio exterior lo originaron los cambios en las variables explicativas de la oferta. _______________ THE MEXICAN AVOCADO MARKET (Persea Americana, Mill) 1975-2010. ABSTRACT: The rise of the phytosanitary restriction on the exports of Mexican avocado to the United States, on the 31st of January of 1997, made the exports increased by 2315.2% from 1997 to 2010, at an annual average growth rate of 27.8%. The total volume exported in 2010 represented an income of 469 US million dollars. The objective of this research is to represent by means of an econometric model the operation of the Mexican avocado market, considering the export price and its transmission on the internal prices, as well as on the supply, the demand and the current account. The results indicate that in average of years 1997 to the 2010 the changes of the supply explanatory variables originate exports by 273.38 tons and a fall on the demand side by 60,447 tons. This change produced exports in average by 212.94 tons, the same amounts than the observed ones, which represent a 22%. These results indicate that the greater effects on the avocado trade balance were originated by the changes in the explanatory variables of the supply side.
