A principios del segundo milenio comenzaron a surgir alternativas de mercados en respuesta a la necesidad de una alimentación saludable. En el año 2005 surge el Mercado Alternativo de Tlaxcala, conformado por pequeños productores locales. En esta investigación se estudiaron las principales estrategias que han implementado las Pequeñas Unidades de Producción Familiar para participar en el mercado frente a las diferentes etapas comprendidas, estas incluyen tanto el mercado como las necesidades reflejadas por su ciclo de vida familiar. Se utilizaron dos métodos: cuantitativo y cualitativo, aplicando una encuesta sencilla a 24 miembros del Mercado Alternativo de Tlaxcala y a tres miembros a profundidad. Se hizo énfasis en miembros que participan en su unidad de producción familiar, el tiempo que tienen vendiendo en este Mercado Alternativo de Tlaxcala (2015-2016), los productos que iniciaron vendiendo y los productos que actualmente venden. Los resultados destacan la importancia que las pequeñas unidades de producción tienen en el mercado y cómo modifican sus estrategias para poder permanecer en él. La estrategia que más se ha implementado ha sido la de dar valor agregado a sus productos y esto se observa en una evolución en la diversidad de productos ofrecidos, principalmente porque en un inicio el Mercado Alternativo de Tlaxcala ofrecía semillas y hortalizas frescas y actualmente ofrece también una gran variedad de comida preparada para comer en el lugar o para llevar a casa. En general, todas las estrategias están directamente ligadas con el ciclo de vida en que se encuentra cada Unidad de Producción Familiar. _______________ FARMER STRATEGIES AND ALTERNATIVE MARKETS. THE SMALL PRODUCTION UNITS IN FRONT OF THE ALTERNATIVE MARKET OF TLAXCALA. TLAXCALA, MEXICO. ABSTRACT: At the beginning of the second millennium market alternatives began to emerge in response to the need for healthy eating. In 2005 the Tlaxcala Alternative Market was created, made up of small local producers. In this research, the main strategies implemented by the Small Family Production Units to participate in the market were studied, considering the different stages included, these include both the market and the needs reflected by their family life cycle. Two methods were used: quantitative and qualitative, applying a simple survey to 24 members of the Alternative Market of Tlaxcala and three members in depth. Emphasis was placed on members participating in their family production unit, the time they have been selling in the Tlaxcala Alternative Market (2015-2016), the products they started selling and which they currently sell.
