Los muérdagos dependen de vectores bióticos para la dispersión de sus semillas, y requieren que éstas sean depositadas en hospederos compatibles y ambientes adecuados para su sobrevivencia. Los objetivos de este estudio fueron, analizar el efecto que tienen la orientación del terreno y la compacidad del dosel sobre la diversidad y estructura arbórea, la dispersión de hospederos y la diversidad y el porcentaje de cobertura de muérdagos. En el Área Natural Protegida La Martinica, se seleccionaron 25 unidades de muestreo de 500 m2, divididas en subunidades de 50 m2, en cuatro orientaciones del terreno y dos condiciones de compacidad del dosel, en las que se registraron el diámetro normal, la altura y los diámetros menor y mayor de la copa de los árboles con un diámetro normal ≥10 cm, para describir su estructura horizontal y vertical. Las frecuencias de los hospederos en las subunidades de muestreo fueron utilizadas para determinar su patrón de dispersión espacial, además, se estimó el porcentaje de cobertura de muérdagos en cada hospedero, y se analizó su riqueza y diversidad. Se encontraron once especies de hospederos, que en conjunto concentran un 70% de los valores estructurales; los individuos tendieron a presentar un patrón de dispersión agregado; la riqueza, diversidad y cobertura de muérdagos fueron mayores en terrenos con orientación Este; en los doseles más compactos la diversidad de muérdagos fue más alta y su cobertura más baja que en doseles abiertos. El presente estudio contribuye a ampliar el conocimiento de los muérdagos bajo un enfoque ecológico, permitió conocer como la orientación del terreno y la compacidad del dosel pueden afectar su diversidad y cobertura. Además, se encontraron patrones que muestran que la estructura arbórea influye en la distribución de muérdagos y otros que indican que son especies sensibles a la disponibilidad de luz. _______________ STRUCTURE AND DIVERSITY OF MISTLETOE IN A HUMID MOUNTAIN FOREST IN CENTRAL VERACRUZ. ABSTRACT: Mistletoes depend on biotic vectors for the dispersion of their seeds, and require that seeds be deposited in compatible hosts and suitable environments for their survival. The aims of this study were to analyze the effect that the slope aspect and the compactness of the canopy have on the forest structure, the dispersal of hosts and the diversity and covering of mistletoe. In the La Martinica Protected Natural Area, 25 sampling units of 500 m2 were selected, divided into subunits of 50 m2, in four slope aspects and two conditions of canopy compactness, in which were registered; the diameter at breast height, the height, and the smaller and larger diameters of the crown of trees with a diameter at breast height ≥10 cm, to describe their horizontal and vertical structure. The frequencies of the hosts in the sampling subunits were used to determine their spatial dispersion pattern; in addition, the percentage of mistletoe coverage in each host was estimated and their richness and diversity were analyzed. Eleven species of hosts were found, which together concentrate 70% of the structural values; individuals tended to present an aggregate pattern of dispersion; the richness, diversity and covering of mistletoe were greater in East slopes; in the more compact canopies, the diversity of mistletoe was higher and its covering was lower than in open canopies. The present study contributes to expand the knowledge of the mistletoe under an ecological approach, allowed to know how the slope aspect and the compactness of the canopy can affect its diversity and covering. In addition, there were patterns that show that the forest structure influences mistletoe distribution and others that indicate that they are sensitive species to the availability of light.
