_______________ MONITORING OF SCOLYTINAE (COLEOPTERA: CURCULIONIDAE) WITH CHEMICAL ATTRACTANTS IN AVOCADO ORCHADS IN MICHOACÁN. ABSTRACT: In Mexico, the avocado (Persea americana Mill.), is a crop of economic importance due mainly to exportations, in addition to its nutritional value. The objective of the present work was to the use of different chemical attractants in a trapping system, in order to estimate the richness of local Scolytinae and additionally contribute in the initial detection of exotic species for avocado orchads in Mexico. The study was conducted in commercial avocado orchads in the municipalities of Nuevo San Juan Parangaricutiro (SJ), Uruapan (UR) and Ziracuaretiro (ZR), Michoacán, where 24 monthly samplings were conducted from July 2016 to June 2018. The attractants evaluated were: alpha-copaene, querciverol + ethanol and ethanol 96%. A total of 15,772 specimens were recorded, belonging to 72 species, grouped in 33 genera of Scolytinae. The sites with the highest diversity of Scolytinae species were UR and ZR with 44 species each, while in SJ 31 species were recorded. It was found that the species Corthylus praeustus (Schedl) constitutes a new record for Mexico, and 27 species as new records of Scolytinae for the state of Michoacán. The population abundance of Scolytinae was greater during the first year in SJ and UR, in contrast to ZR, where the highest population abundance was obtained in the second year. For the three avocado orchads, the maximum population peaks coincided with the periods of higher rainfall and high percentages of relative humidity. The greatest number of captures was obtained with the use of querciverol + ethanol (46.68%), followed by ethanol (43.81%), and finally alpha-copaene (8.82%).
