La cuenca del río Texcoco tenía un importante aporte de escurrimiento y sedimentos que ponían en riesgo la rehabilitación y recuperación del ex lago de Texcoco, razón por la cual, en la década de los setentas, se inició un proceso de recuperación de áreas degradadas, mediante la implementación de obras de conservación, cambio de uso de suelo para recuperar la agricultura y proteger las zonas con vegetación. Se analizó la información de precipitación, escurrimientos y la degradación específica de los suelos para dos períodos antes (1960-1977) y después (1978-1990) de las obras, para analizar los cambios de estas variables hidrológicas producto del manejo. Se calibró y aplicó el modelo WATEM/SEDEM alimentado con información de precipitación y parámetros estimados de erosionabilidad, longitud y grado de pendiente, cobertura y prácticas de manejo para los diferentes períodos para estimar la producción de sedimentos o degradación específica. Los resultados muestran que los escurrimientos y la degradación específica disminuyen y que existen diferencias estadísticas significativas obtenidas con las pruebas de F y de t de Student que indican los servicios ambientales de las obras. El proceso iterativo de calibración permitió obtener los parámetros óptimos que requieren el modelo obteniendo eficiencias del modelo (ME) de 0.47 y de 0.69 y valores de RRMSE de 0.49 y 0.52 para antes y después de las obras respectivamente y encontrando que la producción de sedimentos estimada con el modelo WATEM/SEDEM mostró un alta correlación (R=0.86) con la producción de sedimentos y un ajuste lineal con un coeficiente de determinación R2 de 0.73 que indica una buena eficiencia en la predicción. _______________ EVALUATION AND CALIBRATION OF THE HYDROLOGICAL MODEL WATEM/SEDEM FOR THE BASIN OF THE TEXCOCO RIVER. ABSTRACT: The basin of the Texcoco river had an important contribution of the runoff and sediment that threatened the rehabilitation and restoration of the former Lake of Texcoco, for these reason, in the late seventies, a recovery of the degraded areas was initiated by implementing soil conservation works, the change of land use for an agriculture recovery and protect areas with vegetation. Information on precipitation, runoff, and specific degradation for the two periods before (1960-1977) and after (1978-1990) the conservation works, was analyze the changes of these hydrological variables due to the watershed management. It was calibrated and applied the model WATEM/SEDEM fed with information of rainfall and estimated parameters of erodibility, length and degree of slope, cover and management practices for different periods to estimate the sediment yield or specific degradation. The results show that runoff and specific degradation decrease and there are a statistically significant differences obtained with the F test and t of Student indicating the environmental services of the soil conservation works. The iterative calibration process yielded optimal model parameters that require obtaining efficiency model (ME) of 0.47 and 0.69 and RRMSE values of 0.49 and 0.52 before and after works respectively and finding that sediment production estimated with model WATEM/SEDEM showed a high correlation (R = 0.86) with the production of sediment and a linear fit with a coefficient of determination R2 of 0.73 which indicates a good efficiency in the prediction.
