Sustaining FELDA oil palm scheme productivity.

Felda has been involved in land development and settlement of jungle land since 1960 with its first oil palm scheme Felda Taib Andak in Johor. Today after 46 years, Felda has developed 183 oil palm schemes covering 311,956 hectares and replanted 80,694 hectares. The success of developing oil palm areas that had achieved the desired productivity and thereby fulfilling its objective of improving the livelihood of its settlers will be highlighted in this paper. The various policies and programme that have been undertaken include the implementation of 'block system' for field operations, proper agronomic practices such as fertilizer application at optimum levels and the establishment of appropriate funds to ensure the continuing maintenance and productivity of the schemes. Currently the main thrust towards sustaining productivity is the Felda replanting programme that will be dealt with at length in this paper.
