Our work demands creative scientific insight into an uncertain future. We know that the research we conduct today, if conducted with foresight and a concern for equility, will improve economic and environmentalconditions for many poor people. This sense of responsability to the future is reflected in the articles presented here. Each article describes a new scientific endeavor, approach to research pertnerships, or research tool thet should contribute to future food security, poverty alleviation, and environmental well being.
