Seven new Working Documents 4

Seven new Working Documents The latest batch of Working Documents to emerge from studies conducted for CTA cover the fields of information for natural resource management policies, small scale food processing and market information systems. In the field of information support to NRM, there are reports covering three countries: Cameroon, Madagascar and Namibia. Each report presents an overall picture of the country s priorities for NRM, and discusses the roles of various stakeholders, from State to local community. Two key issues which emerge are the need for empowerment of stakeholders in order to properly participate in the formulation and implementation! of policy, and the importance of inter-sectoral cooperation. The small-scale food processing sectors of three southern Africa states South Africa, Mozambique and Zambia are reviewed in three separate reports by one study team. Despite the stark contrasts of the three countries economies, the team highlights common factors: lack of finance, difficult access to credit and operational problems. The use of local radio stations and telephone and email are among the elements in the market information system (MIS) designed with stakeholders in three projects in various parts of Uganda. The MIS (not to be confused with the other definition in widespread use: management information system) will provide producers and traders with data on the markets for maize, beans and cassava.
