Evaluation of black oat (avena spp.) cultivars grown in vineyard soils contaminated by copper.

Black oat is a cultivated plant as cover crop in vineyard. It is common to use cover plants as soil conditioners for the cultivation of the grapevine, however high copper (Cu) levels in the soil makes grapevine management much more difficult, which, in turn, makes it necessary to select a better adapted species and/or cultivars which contribute to the phytoremediation in vineyards contaminated with Cu. The aim of this study was to evaluate black oat cultivars grown in soils with different levels of copper. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, at Embrapa Uva e Vinho dependencies, Bento Gonçalves, RS, Brazil. The experiment design was in randomized blocks, with four repetitions, in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, with five black oat cultivars: BRS Madrugada, BRS Centauro, UPFA 21 Moreninha, Fronteira and Embrapa 139 Neblina, and four doses of Cu: 0, 150, 250 e 350 mg kg-¹ was applied in the form of CuSO4 diluted in water.
