Problemática de la Pudrición del cogollo en Tumaco e instrumentos para su manejo y la renovación del cultivo.

Bud Rot disease continues to advance in the municipality of Tumaco, in the south of Colombia. As a result of its lethal impact, the production of palm oil continues to fall. However, the shock response programs established and initiated in March 2007 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Finagro, Fedepalma, Cenipalma and local oil palm cultivators have born fruit. These programs have included censuses of infected palms, state incentives for their erradication, funding for the renewal of plantations with the OxG hybrid, and the strengthening of research projects to determine the causal agent and to design technologies for its control.
