Le développement du palmier à huile de Cte d'Ivoire avec Sodepalm/Palmindustrie.

The research results in both oil palm genet6ic improvement and agronomy were sufficiently advances at the beginning of the 1960s fir the launcg of a vast oil palm development plan in the Ivory Coast with a review to diversifying its agriculture, supplying its population with oil and exporting the surplus. The differente stages in the erratic development over the last thirty year are analized. With almost 150000 hectares of oil palm estates and smallholdings at the end of 1995 and palm oil production fluctuating between 250000 and 280000 tonnes, the Ivory Cists remains a largely exporting cournty and benefits from any assets (climatic conditions, smallholder enthusiam, relatively competitive productos costs) for further developing this sectos, in order to meet the requirements on the country and the region in the coming decades).
