Soil fertility management in Kenyan coffee

The importance of coffee in the world market and more so to Kenya's economy cannot be over emphasized. To be able to maintain and improve high coffee yields and quality, coffee soil fertility management has continued to enjoy a high priority within the coffee research agenda in Kenya. This involves, studies on nutrient requirements of the coffee trees for high yields and quality. Types, quantities, application timing of inorganic fertilizers; alternative sources of nutrients such as organic residues and green manures; and farming systems which may lead to sustained soil fertility and better inherent soil nutrient utilization such as intercropping and coffee shading continue to receive much attention.
