Programa de experimentaçao em curso na Estaçao Regional do Amboim

In this treatise the author presents the programme of the tests in course at the Regional Station of the Junta de Exportaçao do Café em Angola, at Amboim. He begins by making a summary study of the mesological conditions of the coffee-growing district, in which there are to be distinguished two sub-regions: the natural forest (Laurisilva type) and the false savanna (Duriherbosa type) which is viable to the cultivation of the C. canephora Pierre and C. arabica L., the adequate shade being provided by Grevilea robusta and Inga sp., planted by the producer. Ther follows a description of the tests being carried out at the Station and in the testing grounds. These are grouped in three classes: cultural technique, fertility and methods for improving production. As regards cultural technique, it seeks to explain the action of the reapers, dimensions of french for the planting, preparation of soil in the plantation, shading etc. In the tests relating to the maintenance of fertility in the soil, 17 in number, a study in being made of the action of macro and micro-nutrients in plantations, both in the savanna and in the forest. Also, tests are being made as to the application and action of organic matter on the coffee-tree itself. Finally, there is a short report of experiments to improve the crop, but these are of a much more restricted nature than the previous ones, due to the fact that the Station does not possess the requisite number of specialised personnel
