Irrigated Upper Amazon cacao in the Lower Shire Valley of Malawi, 2: A water rates trial
Three different irrigation factor of 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 of the evaporation from a Kenya type pan, together with two irrigation deficits of 5.2 cm and 10.4 cm, were compared in a factorial trial on Upper amazon cacao. The 0.8 factor gave the highest yield of both pods and wet beans, but the differences were not significant. Irrigation at a deficit of 5.2 cm significantly increased the yield of wet beans compared with the 10.4 cm treatment. The periodicity of the harvest built up to a maximum in March during both seasons, but was not affected by any of the treatments
