Biosphere reserves and the world conservation strategy II

Both the Biosphere Reserve Program and the World Conservation Strategy provide the context within which all protected areas should be planned and managed. The example of La Tigra National Park in Honduras is used to demonstrate that parks as "islands" will not survive and that regionally-designed landscapes biending both conservation and development are the only solution. The time has come for more application of these tools and policies at the field level.
