Among the most serious problems affecting the lumber industry in Costa Rica are the increasing scarcity of the more widely used species and the lack of information on their substitution by new and up-to-now varietes classified as inferior. Research in the near future should be oriented toward a more realistic use of by-products, such as particle boards and firewood
