A Organização das Nações Unidas para a Alimentação e a Agricultura (FAO, sigla do inglês ''Food and Agriculture Organization'') é uma das agências das Nações Unidas, a que lidera esforços para a erradicação da fome e combate à pobreza. O seu lema, ''fiat panis,'' se traduz do latim, significando “haja pão”.Composta por 194 Estados-membros, mais a União Europeia (UE) e, com presença em mais de 130 países, a organização funciona como um fórum neutro, onde todas as nações que a compõe possuem peso igualitário no que tange às estratégias e decisões, pois proporciona à todos os seus integrantes oportunidades para elaborarem e discutirem políticas ligadas à agricultura e alimentação.
