Resumen: Rufusia pilicola, a new genus and species of red alga inhabiting the hair of two- and three-toed sloths is described. Additionally, two previously described green coccoid taxa reported as occuring on sloth hair are transferred to the genera Dictyococcus and Chlorococcum. At present, Rufusia is known only from sloth hair. It seems likely that it also rown in bark crevieces and on leaf surfaces, but efforts to locate it in these habitats failed
